Your SUV is equipped with a diagnostic system that is comprised of a main computer chip and system sensors. When you turn the ignition key or press the start button, this diagnostic system goes into action. The sensors immediately monitor their systems to make sure everything is working as it should be. They then send a report to the main computer chip that everything is okay or that there is a problem.
When you first fire up the SUV, all of the dashboard warning lights turn on. They remain on while the sensors check the systems. Once the main computer chip gets the a-okay for each system, it will turn off the associated warning light. If a system sensor reports an error, the main computer chip will leave the light on. The chip will turn on a light while you are driving if it receives a reported error.
Diagnostic Test
The diagnostic test is how we get the error codes reported by the system sensors. These codes apply to specific problems. The check engine light is a general warning that covers numerous problems. This is why we need to run the diagnostic test – to get to the heart of the problem.
Once we review the code it will tell us what needs to be repaired or replaced. The check engine light can come on if there is a problem with the catalytic converter, for example. It can also come on if
